2021: An interview with Dulce Compania

We’re beyond thrilled to be welcoming Dulce Compania to bOing! this year with their performance Rainbow Ballet.

We caught up with the company to find out more about the parade they are bringing to to the festival…

How did Dulce Compania begin?

“Since the foundation in 2003 Dulce Compania realizes unusual walk acts and show productions in different scales. With high-quality and glamorous costumes, surprising show ideas and professional actors from the fields of artistry, dance and acting, Dulce Compania provides emotional experiences. In its current line-up Dulce Compania exists since 2014.”

Tell us about Rainbow Ballet

“Rainbow Ballet was conceived and implemented in 2016 as an open-air production, especially as a walk act for parades and processions. The idea for it is based on the corresponding relationship between figure and space and in its realization is inspired by the triadic ballet of the Bauhaus of the twenties, consisting of space dance, shape dance and gesture dance. Fundamental is the multi-layered, triple order: “costume – movement – music”, “space – form – colour”, the 3 basic colours “red – yellow – blue”, which can be found in the three stilt figures as well as the number of actors on freehand wheels and stilt walkers with 3 each.

The formal language and multicoloured composition of the ensemble of stilt walkers and actors on Freehand wheels make these walk acts an extraordinary mixture of living installation and conceptual art performance. The use of the Freehand segways makes it possible to cover large event areas. They allow generous choreographies and varied movement sequences.

Street parades and processions benefit from the wide-ranging effect of this walkact ensemble, due to its strong colours and shapes. It is a true explosion of colour that gives the audience a feeling of absolute joie de vivre and positivity. As a colourful piece of art, the Rainbow Ballet is also a great addition to high-end and fancy events, where they enhance the ambiance with their unique and high-quality style. The Rainbow Ballet also takes on special significance for multicultural events and charity events, as a multi-layered and colourful symbol of tolerance! As such, in 2017 it led the parade of the International German Gymnastics Festival at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.”

What does it mean to you to come to bOing! ?

“After a long period of deprivation due to the pandemic, we are happy to bring colour back into life. We are looking forward to many shining children’s eyes and to the exhilarating feeling of performing in front of an audience.”

Why do you think access to the art by children and young people is so important?

“We think access to art is so important for children because it encourages their creativity. It opens up avenues beyond the intended paths. It forms the basis for openness to the world, diversity and tolerance.”
