bOing! International Family Festival is delighted to welcome The Secret of Nanna: the world’s largest pop-up book inside a lorry! All the family is invited to enter the lorry to discover the answer to the mystery on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 August 2018.
We have sat down with Anna Roca, founder of the theatre company of the same name, to find out more about the creators of The Secret of Nanna in 5 questions, to celebrate the 5th birthday of bOing! this summer!
How did Anna Roca begin?
“Anna Roca Theatre Company began in 1996, dedicating a large part of its life to children and family audiences. Also, the actress Anna Roca has given theatre lessons to children for 25 years.
“I have always liked being with children, playing and teaching to love the theatre and being able to be a good listener and communicator.”
Tell us more about The Secret of Nanna.
“The Secret of Nanna is a candy; a little treasure. With 10 minutes we want to send a very important message to everyone, both children and adults.
The Secret of Nanna was born from the curiosity that we observed on children to know what was inside the box of a truck. And when we asked them if they would like to go up, all of them said yes with very big opened eyes.”
What can families expect?
“I would like families to come to enjoy the show, to let themselves go. And so they will find a magical show, full of enthusiasm, surprise and emotion.”
What does it mean to come to bOing!?
“For me it is a challenge. I am very happy to be coming to Canterbury for the bOing! Festival, expecting to present our show to boys and girls from outside Catalonia, seeing their reaction, their gaze; it will be very enriching.”
Why do you think access to the arts by children and young people is important?
“I think arts are essential for children and young people because of their growing up, to become critical but tolerant people, learning to listen to and understanding this increasingly global world.”
And, to celebrate bOing!’s 5th birthday, summarise your performance in 5 words!
“Our little secret for you…”
